SLO FFA Attends ALA and MFE

On Sunday, January 24th seventeen San Luis Obispo FFA Members traveled to Monterey to attend the MFE and ALA leadership conferences. These conferences took place at the Embassy Suites and were led by the current state officer team as well as FFA Alumni.

All ALA and MFE attendees grouped together for one big family picture before the final sessions of each conference.

Made For Excellence is a conference specially designed for sophomores and focuses on bettering one’s skills to be successful. At MFE the State Officers led the members in defining leadership as well as exploring character development and the responsibility and choices that go into it. They were then able to investigate to find their own strengths and learn tools to help with their personal growth.

Advanced Leadership Academy is for juniors and seniors to find their vision and be able to use their own skills and their relationships with others  to achieve it. The members became aware of the fifteen areas in the Program of Activities and learned how to use a SWOT(strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats) map to conduct critical analysis and something within our chapter.

SLO FFA was awarded a framed an autographed photo of Mr.Beard after winning second place in the ALA Chapter Project Planning competition. Luke O’Leary, Amber Bjerre, Carolyn Adams, Lacey Haas, Callan Treur, Maggie VanScoy and Sydney McGovern were given the task of planning and event or program to implement in our chapter designed to improve an area where our chapter is not as strong. They sat down and set goals and brainstormed the steps they would need to take. After given ten minutes to create a poster as well as preparing their presentation the seven of them explained their project within the one minute time limit and moved on to the final round. The final round was done in front of a panel of judges that asked questions.

Thank you Aggie Backers for covering half of the cost of the registration fees, and thank you Mrs. Haas and Ms. Brennan for driving.
