SLO FFA’s Greenhand Week and First Annual SAE Night

This past week, our chapter Greenhands have been living it up with the week dedicated completely to them! This week is put on to motivate our new students in our chapter to get involved and have fun in the FFA!

MONDAY: DONUT PARTY

On Monday, they got to attend a donut party before school where they dyed their hands green, took pictures with a giant green hand, and participated in other fun activities while they munched on donuts and drinks.

Monday morning, our committee put on a great donut breakfast, and each greenhand died their hands green!

TUESDAY: BLUE AND GOLD DAY

Tuesday was a blue and gold spirit day for all ag students. Greenhands who dressed up were awarded candy during their classes and informed about all the activities to come. There was also a novice parliamentary procedure debate team meeting at lunch. We are so excited to welcome these future debaters into our big FFA family. For anyone still interested: It is not too late to sign up!

It is a tradition in our chapter that each greenhand die their hand green, and this year's class got to experience this this previous week!

WEDNESDAY: CREED DAY

Wednesday was “Creed Day”.  Greenhands who signed up for the creed public speaking contest competed all day at the school level.  Throughout the day, they received little good luck notes. Special congrats to Sydney Anselmo, Justin Brito, Rita Buschur, Andrea Cao, Carly Crow, John Erbstoesser, Janea Huber, Gilana Iofis, Ariana King, Will Metzger, Cati Newlon, Lili Steele, and Taylor Young for making it through to sectionals! They will represent SLO FFA at the SLO Sectional Creed Recitation Contest on November 17, 2015 at Paso Robles High School.  Good job to everyone who competed! It takes real guts to put yourself out there and participate in a speaking contest. Participating in creed is a fantastic step to becoming a public speaker and getting more involved in our chapter.

In addition, during class on Wednesday, students wrote down what they believed in on little green paper hands.  These were displayed at the Greenhand Banquet on Monday.

THURSDAY: GAME DAY

Thursday was mixer day! During class, students got to play an all time favorite game: Baby Bronco Backpack. Everyone had a great time bonding. Videos from this day are available to watch on SLO FFA’s periscope app.  At lunch on Thursday, free pizza was available for all greenhands as they had a nice sit down lunch with some older students in the ag shop.

Even our greenhands represented, including this awesome project, which connected this student with her family as well as to agriculture through learning how to can food properly.

Monday was the SAE (Supervised Agriculture Experience)  Project Night and Greenhand Appreciation Meeting. The top 25 SAE projects were on display in the school library from 4:15 to 5:15pm. Students presented their projects with digital displays and presentation boards. Numerous parents and students were in attendance.

Fish are friends... But also food! This student's awesome project showcased all the benefits that she found from researching more about fish.
