2026 SLO Section Opening and Closing Ceremonies Contest!

Written by Natalia Hernandez, Historian 26-27. October 8, 2026.This past Wednesday SLOFFA hosted over 375 students competing in the 2026 Sectional Opening & Closing Public Speaking Contest. SLO FFA had 72 students step up to compete in the first public speaking competition of the year. Students form teams of 6 and memorize a few lines of the official Opening and Closing Ceremonies script to recite in front of a panel of judges. Our teams spent weeks preparing for this and we are so proud of how everyone performed. Thank you to all of the schools who attended, parents and members of the Aggie Backers for preparing dinner, and the students from our program who helped lead teams and set up classrooms. Special congratulations to the following: 

Novice: 4th and 6th place overall out of 18 teams

Outstanding Novice Reporter: Freshman Harper Johnson

Advanced: 2nd, 3rd, 8th Overall High teams out of 35 teams. 

Outstanding Reporter:  Seniors Kate Soderin

Outstanding Secretary: Sophomore JakeRyan Crocker

Outstanding Vice President: Sophomore Miller Haase
